An Anti-Rape Campaign Geared Toward Men

No more victim-blaming here! MyStrength is an anti-rape campaign targeting men. The program was founded in California back in 1980 and visions “a world free from sexual violence.”

This campaign seeks inclusivity, featuring models of a variety of ethnic backgrounds, as well as one gay couple. Posters have also been released in Spanish.

What are your thoughts– do you think this campaign will be successful? What would you do the same or differently if you were in charge of it?

Pariah

Pariah is the story of a teen struggling with conflicting identities, one of which being gender. Critics have been raving about the film and we can’t wait to see it!

What other movies are you looking forward to seeing this Spring?

What is feminism?

There are lots of different definitions of feminism out there. One of our favorites here at the WRC is this comprehensive definition:

“The most straightforward definition of feminism says that is a movement for social, cultural, political and economic equality of men and women. It is a campaign against gender inequalities and it strives for equal rights for women. Feminism can be also defined as the right to enough information available to every single woman so that she can make a choice to live a life which is non-discriminatory and which works within the principles of social, cultural, political and economic equality and independence.”

Welcome to the WRC blog

Here at the WRC, we’re so excited to finally have our own blog (and we hope you are, too)! This blog will be an outlet for sharing what we’re up to both in office and around campus. We’ll also be sharing news– locally and nationally– relevant to feminist and GLBTQ issues.

We look forward to lots of consciousness-raising and conversations with you!
